Specifications
Montessori Shape Sorter (Ages 3+)
A house that teaches. Solid beech walls with a rich sapele mahogany roof and door — and inside, twelve shape blocks cut from exotic hardwoods. No paint, no plastic. The colours are the wood itself: purpleheart's deep violet, African Satinwood's golden honey, zebrano's dramatic stripes, and walnut's chocolate warmth.
Children post each shape through the roof and walls, then open the door to retrieve them and start again. Twelve shapes, twelve chances to match, sort, and discover — quadrant, cylinder, heart, cube, cross, flower, star, triangle, diamond, hexagon, parallelogram and pentagon. Every piece sanded smooth and finished with Osmo Wood Wax Finish.
- Real hardwoods – Beech walls with Sapele Mahogany roof and door; shape blocks in Purpleheart, Beech, African Satinwood, Zebrano, Sapele Mahogany and Walnut
- Twelve shapes – Six different woods, naturally coloured
- Multiple-lifetime guarantee – Built to outlast childhood. And the next one.
- Free UK delivery
Crafted by Nature, Perfected by Hand
The Story Behind Our Woods
At Oak & Sprout, we believe every toy should have a story. That’s why we choose woods that don’t just look beautiful, but have their own natural character. For example, our vibrant Purpleheart isn’t just a colour— we had to switch to diamond-tipped blades to be able to shape one of the world’s densest woods.
Naturally Colourful, Wonderfully Unique
We never use artificial dyes. Instead, we let woods like Padauk and Purpleheart reveal their own rich hues over time. Each piece is a little bit of nature’s own artwork, making every toy one-of-a-kind.
Built to Inspire and Challenge
Toys like our Shelly Slow puzzle are crafted to be engaging again and again. We design them so that each assembly is a fresh adventure, encouraging little ones to think, explore, and build resilience—all while playing.

Shape recognition
Twelve distinct shapes build spatial awareness and problem-solving skills.
Sensory discovery
Six woods across twelve blocks — different weight, different grain, different warmth in the hand.
Fine motor development
Posting shapes through the roof builds hand-eye coordination and pinch grip.
Open-ended play
Sort by shape, build towers, fill the house — children find their own way.
Everyday care. Wipe with a damp cloth and let the wood dry naturally. Please don’t soak it or put it in the dishwasher.
Where to keep it. Away from radiators and direct sun. Wood moves a little as the air grows drier or damper through the year, which is quite natural.
Refreshing the finish. When the wood begins to look dry, rub in one thin coat of Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin (1101), the finish we use ourselves, and let it dry fully before play. Once dry, it is food-safe. For babies who mouth their toys, ideally wait two weeks. Or let us make it easy: our Toy Care Kit has everything you need.
Our guarantee. Every toy is covered by our Multiple Lifetime Guarantee, and caring for it yourself never affects it.

The Montessori Playmat
In Montessori education, the work mat defines the child’s workspace — a bounded area that fosters focus, independence, and respect for materials. Children carry their chosen activity to it, work, and return everything when finished. This is the Montessori work cycle.
Our playmat brings this principle home. It creates a "prepared environment" - a core Montessori concept - wherever your child chooses to learn. On the kitchen table, the living room floor, or at a grandparent’s house.
- Defines a focused workspace for independent learning
- Protects surfaces and keeps pieces contained
- Rolls up for easy storage and travel
Twelve Shapes. Six Woods. One Door.
Twelve shapes, because a one-year-old needs a circle and a square and a three-year-old needs a star and a flower, and they should be the same toy. Six hardwoods, because the colour is the wood — purpleheart really is purple, movingui really is that yellow. Nothing painted, nothing dyed, nothing that wears off in the wash.
And a door rather than a lid. It opens on an elastic hinge, and the opening is child-sized — small enough that an adult hand doesn't really fit. Getting the shapes back out is your child's job, not yours. That's the half of the play most sorters skip.
Six Hardwoods. Every One Different.
Twelve shape blocks, cut from six exotic hardwoods — two shapes in each, chosen for their colour, grain, and feel. No dyes, no stains. Every colour you see is the natural wood.
