Alphabet Puzzle (lowercase)
Twenty-six letters, one beautiful beginning.
Why Lowercase First?
Specifications
Letters come alive when children can hold them.
Our Inset Wooden Alphabet Puzzle (a–z, lowercase) is a Montessori-inspired wooden alphabet puzzle that turns early literacy into hands-on play. Each lowercase letter sits in its matching pocket, creating a self-correcting experience that builds confidence, phonics readiness, and fine-motor skills.
Hand-finished on a base of English oak or beech, the letters are cut from a rotating palette of exotic hardwoods (think Padauk, Purpleheart, Zebrano). The colours you see are the wood’s natural grain — no stains or paints — making every set a unique, heirloom-quality keepsake.

Crafted by Nature, Perfected by Hand
The Story Behind Our Woods
At Oak & Sprout, we believe every toy should have a story. That’s why we choose woods that don’t just look beautiful, but have their own natural character. For example, our vibrant Purpleheart isn’t just a colour— we had to switch to diamond-tipped blades to be able to shape one of the world’s densest woods.
Naturally Colourful, Wonderfully Unique
We never use artificial dyes. Instead, we let woods like Padauk and Purpleheart reveal their own rich hues over time. Each piece is a little bit of nature’s own artwork, making every toy one-of-a-kind.
Built to Inspire and Challenge
Toys like our Shelly Slow puzzle are crafted to be engaging again and again. We design them so that each assembly is a fresh adventure, encouraging little ones to think, explore, and build resilience—all while playing.

The Montessori Playmat
In Montessori education, the work mat defines the child's workspace — a bounded area that fosters focus, independence, and respect for materials. Children carry their chosen activity to it, work, and return everything when finished. This is the Montessori work cycle.
Our playmat brings this principle home. It creates a "prepared environment" - a core Montessori concept - wherever your child chooses to learn. On the kitchen table, the living room floor, or at a grandparent's house.
- Defines a focused workspace for independent learning
- Protects surfaces and keeps pieces contained
- Rolls up for easy storage and travel
A Learning Journey, Not Just a Toy
Our learning boards are sequenced to follow your child's natural development. Start with the Geo Nest for shapes and spatial awareness from age 1. Move to numbers and lowercase letters at age 2-3. Progress to uppercase, extended numbers, and tracing by age 4-5.
Each board builds on the skills of the last. The chunky pieces of the Geo Nest develop the grip strength needed for the smaller letter pieces. The number puzzle's 0-9 lays the foundation for the extended 1-20 board. It's a curriculum in wood — designed to grow with your child.
Why Hands-On Learning Matters
In the Montessori method, children learn through touch, manipulation, and self-correction. Our learning boards are designed around this principle: each piece has a single correct position, so children know immediately when they've got it right — without being told.
The contrasting exotic hardwoods aren't just beautiful - they provide a visual and tactile cue that helps children distinguish between pieces. A purpleheart "A" feels different from a padauk "B". Learning happens through the hands before the mind catches up.
The Materials
We use naturally colourful exotic hardwoods because children deserve better than paint and plastic. Every piece is sanded smooth and finished with a child-safe natural oil. The colours you see are the wood itself - no stains, no dyes, no shortcuts.
